Mobile Web Applications
Mobile devices like the iPhone, Nexus One, Blackberry and PDAs are the new frontier in application development.
As these devices' performance and functionality increase, users are continuing to look for new things that they can do with them.
If built properly, a web application can deliver the same content to both mobile platforms and PCs by customising it to meet the needs of either platform "on the fly" - you don't need a seperate development to support both traditional and mobile platforms at the same time!
Mobile web applications are much cheaper to develop than a native mobile application (using Java for instance) and have the potential to reach a much wider market too, with nothing to install.
They can be a great spring board into native (desktop) applications too, by giving a 'teaser' portion of functionality. While such functionality will be useful on the handheld device, it can be used to encourage users to use the same service on a traditional desktop PC or laptop to fully experience your service properly in a richer environment.
